Thrift Butik auctions
Version 2026-08-24
These Auction Terms apply to Thrift Butik's online-only auctions in addition to our Terms of Service, Refund Policy and Privacy Policy. If these Auction Terms conflict with our general terms about an auction-specific process, these Auction Terms apply to that process. These terms do not affect your statutory rights.
1. Who we are
Thrift Butik Ltd (company number 16641535), Unit 1A, Sandtoft Industrial Estate, Belton, Doncaster, DN9 1PN, United Kingdom. Email sales@thriftbutik.co.uk or telephone 07873 857 224.
2. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a contract.
- You must use your own customer account and provide accurate contact, delivery and payment information. You are responsible for activity on your account unless you have reported unauthorised use to us.
- Do not share an account, use another person's account, operate multiple accounts to influence an auction, coordinate bids, bid on your own behalf through another person, or attempt to avoid an auction restriction.
- Our auctions are conducted online. Customers cannot attend the auction in person. Collection after purchase does not make the auction an in-person public auction.
3. Bidding and auction endings
- Only bid if you intend and are able to complete the purchase. A bid cannot normally be withdrawn after it is placed. If you make an obvious input error, contact us immediately; removal is not guaranteed and is possible only where the auction platform can remove it before the auction ends.
- The listing, photographs, condition grade, disclosed faults, dimensions, delivery information and these Auction Terms form part of the information on which you bid. Ask us before bidding if anything is unclear.
- A listing may state a reserve price. If the reserve is not met, there is no winning bidder even if bids were placed.
- We may use an automatic extension when a valid bid is placed near the scheduled end. The auction ends only when the auction page records it as ended.
- The highest valid bid accepted by the auction platform normally wins. A bid is valid only when the platform records it before the applicable end time. A display, connection or message that has not been accepted by the platform is not a recorded bid.
- We may withdraw a lot, reject an invalid or manipulated bid, or correct an obvious material listing, stock or technical error where reasonably necessary. If an incident materially affects a fair outcome, we may extend, cancel or rerun the affected auction using a supported procedure and will explain the outcome. We will not cancel a paid and confirmed order arbitrarily.
4. Condition grades and checks
Read the individual listing as well as the grade. A basic power-on check is not a full functional, electrical-safety, installation or endurance test. Use a suitably competent person where installation or a safety assessment is required.
- New
- We received the item as brand new, with no signs of previous use and in factory-sealed packaging. We may open the original factory seal or packaging to photograph the item. No functional testing is performed.
- Open Box
- The packaging or opening shows signs of previous handling, but the item itself does not show clear signs of previous use or installation. A rudimentary power-on check is performed where applicable, but not all functions are checked.
- Customer Return
- The item was previously purchased and returned for any reason. It may show signs of previous use, marks, minor damage or other imperfections. A rudimentary power-on check is performed where applicable, but not all functions are checked.
- Used
- The item shows clear signs of previous use and the original packaging may be missing. A rudimentary power-on check is performed where applicable, but not all functions are checked.
- For Parts Only
- The item has extensive damage or will not power on. No further tests are performed. It is offered for parts, repair or salvage subject to the specific listing. No representation is made that it is functional or economically repairable.
A disclosed fault or condition is part of the description and affects what a reasonable customer may expect from that lot. It does not excuse an inaccurate description or remove your statutory rights.
5. Winning, contract formation, consolidation and payment
- A winning bid is a commitment to buy the lot at the winning price, subject to the listing, these terms and your statutory rights.
- When the auction ends, the highest valid bidder is the provisional winner. Our acknowledgement, winner notice or invoice confirms the result and requests payment; it is not confirmation that payment has been received. Our sales contract is formed when we accept successful payment and issue a paid order confirmation.
- Eligible lots won by the same customer on the same calendar day are normally combined into one secure Shopify invoice after the customer has chosen the available delivery or collection option.
- Auction wins must be paid online using a method actually offered on the secure Shopify invoice. A displayed card, wallet or PayPal option may be used when available. An available Shopify gift-card balance or customer store credit may also be applied when the secure checkout displays it. If it does not cover the total, the remaining balance must be paid online using another method offered at checkout.
- We may issue Shopify customer store credit or a Shopify gift card as a goodwill gesture, reward, promotion or refund. Store credit is linked to the relevant signed-in customer account; gift cards are redeemed using their Shopify code. Any stated balance, currency, expiry and other issue terms apply. Neither is normally redeemable for cash.
- Cash on Collection, Cash on Delivery and bank transfer are not accepted for auction invoices. Retail discount codes and retail promotions do not apply to auction purchases. This auction-only rule does not change any cash option separately offered for a non-auction retail or wholesale purchase.
- We do not ask for card details by email, telephone or message. Use only the secure checkout reached from your Shopify invoice or account.
- The invoice states the exact payment deadline. This is normally 23:59 UK time on the calendar day after the auction ends. If preparation of a valid invoice or a required pallet quote is delayed, we will state a later exact deadline; the payment period does not run before a valid invoice is available.
- If payment is still outstanding, we normally send one reminder after 20:00 UK time on the deadline day. Failure or delay in receiving a reminder does not remove the obligation to pay by the deadline shown in the invoice and auction account.
6. Delivery and collection choices
The listing shows the frozen delivery class, dimensions, weight and customer charge or quote basis before bidding. We will not increase a fixed delivery charge after a bid. Tracked delivery is available only to supported addresses in England, Wales and mainland Scotland, including the Scottish Highlands. It is not available to Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Scottish islands, the Isle of Wight, the Isles of Scilly, the Channel Islands, the Republic of Ireland or other international destinations. Collection may be chosen where the listing offers it.
- Regular items: eligible wins are combined. Delivery is £4 when the delivered regular pool is no more than 2 kg and no more than 90 litres. Above that, each £7 tracked-postage label provides up to 20 kg and 90 litres; the number of labels is determined by whichever of total weight or total volume requires more labels.
- Large item – £20 delivery or collection: the £20 fixed delivery charge applies to each large item only when delivery is chosen. Collection remains available. It is separate from the regular-item postage pool.
- Pallet: £100 per pallet is a guide price only, not an automatic charge. We obtain a final quote using the delivery postcode and access requirements. You must expressly accept the final quote before it is invoiced, or you may choose collection.
- Collection only: no delivery is offered for that lot.
For a mixed win containing delivered items and a collection-only item, one invoice may contain all winning item lines and delivery only for the eligible delivered items. The collection item remains a separate collection fulfilment. Alternatively, where offered, you may choose to collect all items.
Any delivery estimate is an estimate unless we expressly agree a guaranteed service. We remain responsible for the goods until they are delivered into your physical possession or that of a person you identify to receive them.
7. Collection deadline
- Collection is by appointment from the collection address we confirm. Bring the requested order evidence and identification.
- After we tell you that the item is ready, you must collect it by the exact deadline stated in the ready-for-collection confirmation. The deadline gives seven complete calendar days.
- There is no automatic storage period, storage grace period or storage fee.
- If you cannot meet the deadline, contact us before it expires to ask for an extension. An extension applies only after we approve it and confirm an exact revised deadline. No storage fee applies during an approved extension.
- If the item is not collected by the applicable deadline and no approved extension is active, staff may release it for relisting and record one auction non-compliance incident. Delivery or collection already completed for other items in a mixed order is not reversed. If the uncollected item was paid for, we will refund its price and any undelivered charge by the original payment method. We do not charge a storage or automatic cancellation fee.
8. Non-payment, non-collection and auction restrictions
An unpaid win may be cancelled and released for relisting after its payment deadline. A missed payment or missed collection deadline normally follows one shared incident ladder:
- first incident: warning only;
- second incident: 3-day auction bidding restriction;
- third incident: 7-day auction bidding restriction;
- fourth and each later incident: 30-day auction bidding restriction.
We may impose an immediate permanent auction restriction without a prior warning for serious misconduct or material risk. Examples include fraud or attempted fraud, bid manipulation or collusion, threats, abuse, harassment, deliberate circumvention of auction or security restrictions, serious misuse of customer or staff systems, unlawful activity, or another serious or repeated breach of these terms.
We may consider reasonably verified conduct or communications on another platform or channel only where they materially relate to transaction or auction integrity, fraud, security, threats, abuse, harassment, or the safety of customers, staff or the business. This can include a relevant marketplace, social-media service, review platform, messaging service, email, payment or service-provider channel, or an in-person collection. We retain only the minimum relevant evidence that is reasonably needed.
A lawful complaint, negative review, payment dispute, request for redress or exercise of a statutory right is not, by itself, misconduct or a reason for a restriction. We may refuse future auction participation or future transactions for a recorded legitimate reason. We do not discriminate, remove your statutory rights or arbitrarily cancel an existing paid and confirmed contract.
To ask us to review an auction restriction, contact sales@thriftbutik.co.uk. We may withhold private security or third-party information when responding.
9. Consumer cancellation, returns and faulty goods
These auctions are online-only and do not give customers the possibility of attending the auction in person. If you buy as a consumer, the public auction exception to the normal distance-contract cancellation rules does not apply merely because bidding was competitive or because you later collect the goods.
- A consumer may normally cancel a distance purchase without giving a reason by telling us within 14 days after receiving the goods. The exceptions are summarised below. If one order is delivered in separate instalments, the period normally runs from receipt of the last item.
- After telling us, you normally have a further 14 days to return the goods. For a change-of-mind cancellation, you are responsible for the direct return cost unless we agree otherwise. Where an item cannot normally be returned by post, the listing or fulfilment information will give a reasonable return-cost estimate before you are bound.
- We refund eligible payments, including the least expensive standard outbound delivery charge we offered. If goods were supplied, we make the refund within 14 days after receiving the returned goods or evidence that you sent them back. We may make a fair deduction if the goods were handled beyond what was reasonably necessary to inspect them as you could in a shop.
- Statutory cancellation exceptions may apply, including to certain personalised, perishable, hygiene-sealed, or sealed audio, video or software goods after the relevant seal is broken. Any relevant exception will be identified before bidding.
- Goods must still be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for any purpose made known to us, taking account of the price, condition, disclosed faults and all other relevant circumstances. A For Parts Only description does not promise that the item works, but the item must still match its specific description.
- Contact us promptly if an item is faulty, damaged in transit or materially not as described. Change-of-mind return postage rules do not reduce our responsibility where the goods breach your statutory rights.
Any more generous voluntary return or warranty promise in the listing or our Refund Policy is additional to, and does not replace, your statutory rights.
10. Model cancellation notice
You may cancel using any clear statement. You do not have to use this model notice, but you may copy and send it to sales@thriftbutik.co.uk:
To Thrift Butik Ltd, Unit 1A, Sandtoft Industrial Estate, Sandtoft Road, Belton, Doncaster, DN9 1PN:
I/We give notice that I/We cancel my/our contract for the sale of the following goods: [describe the auction item(s)].
Ordered on / received on: [date].
Name: [name].
Address: [address].
Signature: [only if sent on paper].
Date: [date].
11. Privacy and records
We process the minimum account, bid, order, fulfilment, restriction and audit information needed to operate auctions, prevent fraud, resolve disputes, protect customers, staff and the business, and comply with law. This may include relevant provider records and the limited off-platform evidence described in section 8. We share information only where needed with service providers such as Shopify, the auction platform, payment and delivery providers, or when we have a legal obligation.
Permanent auction restrictions require staff approval and are not imposed solely by an automated decision. We retain auction and restriction records only for as long as reasonably necessary for the stated purpose, legal obligations and disputes. See our Privacy Policy.
12. Changes and governing law
The version accepted before you bid applies to that auction. If we make a material change, we publish a new version and require a fresh acceptance before further bidding. We do not change an accepted version in place.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you retain any mandatory protections of your local law and may bring proceedings in the courts available in your part of the United Kingdom.
